<image:caption>Shane Mankitya Kooka is a Guwa and Wulli Wulli man with family connections to Cherbourg, Queensland. Born on Kaurna Country, he is recognised nationally and internationally as an aerosol artist, youth and cultural mentor and tattoo artist. He found his connection to his Aboriginality by drawing with his Mother as he recovered from third degree burns. Shane went on to establish himself as a graffiti artist. He was given the name 3rd because of his burns, and gifted the name “Mankitya” by the local Kaurna community which translates to “the scarred one’’. Shane has worked with local and remote communities, councils and organisations, painted internationally in Indonesia and Africa, and completed a number of high-profile commissions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Since 2001 Eleanor has exhibited 10 solo exhibitions and contributed to 37 group shows across Australia. For over 10 years she has contributed to art education at Adelaide College of the Arts as a lecturer in visual arts, studio head of painting, and adjunct lecturer at Flinders University. Her work has been shown at GAG Projects (Greenaway Art Gallery), SA, Hill Smith Gallery, SA and James Makin Gallery, Vic. Most recently, she has engaged with a number of community spaces including Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre through the Centre for Creative Health and Newmarch Gallery, Payinthi Prospect. Her paintings have been included as finalist works in The Waterhouse Natural History Prize, the Heysen Prize for Landscape and the Tatiara Art Prize. Eleanor recently launched her largest project to date, 1000 ways to rainbow, in February 2021 at Newmarch Gallery. Over two years she made 1000 A6 watercolours, in which metaphorical readings of rainbows were used to explore the inexhaustible potential of watercolour in parallel with the discipline and pursuit of an optimistic mind.</image:caption>

Over the past fifteen years, Jasmine has explored a variety of mediums and in her current practice predominantly works with paint pens and markers to produce rich, layered abstract works. Her work is bold and expressive; Jones lets herself be absorbed in each mark she is making. Jones has been involved in major South Australian festivals such as Adelaide Fringe and SALA. Jones’ extensive exhibiting history demonstrates her commitment as an artist and her love of creating art.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Elyas Alavi’s practice is interdisciplinary bridging elements from poetry to visual arts, from archive to everyday events with the intention to address issues around displacement, trauma, memory and sexual identity. He reflects upon his background as a displaced Hazara (a marginalized ethnic group originally from Afghanistan), and use his particular experiences and contemplations as an epistemological model for the dislocation of people and collective memories. Alavi graduated from a Master of Visual Arts at the University of South Australia in 2016, and has exhibited at Mohsen Gallery (Tehran), Robert Kananaj (Toronto), IFA (Kabul), Firstdraft (Sydney), as well as Ace Open, Felt Space, Nexus Arts (all Adelaide).</image:caption>

<image:caption>Edwina Cooper’s sculptural and installation based practice is influenced by her experiences as a sailor, with a continued interest in the methods for human experience and interaction with oceanic thresholds. Cooper’s practice investigates human inferiority in the face of oceanic immensity and our attempts at fathoming oceanic and other water spaces. Cooper has undertaken residencies in Australia, France and Canada and has drawn on these experiences, as well as self directed nautical research, to produce artworks that have been exhibited widely in South Australia and interstate. In addition, Edwina has been longlisted for the 2022 Aesthetica Art Prize (UK). Ash Tower (he/him) is an Adelaide-based artist and researcher examining how knowledge is produced in visual culture. Tower is currently an ACE Open Studio Resident for 2022 and has exhibited nationally, including 'Via Purifico' at Pig Melon in Boorloo/Perth, 'The Burning of Vision' at the Floating Goose Studios, and 'Protocol' at Cool Change Contemporary as part of the Unhallowed Arts Festival. He has also exhibited at PICA (Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts), the CACSA Project Space, and Carclew Youth Arts. In 2015 Tower undertook a residency at 'SymbioticA: The Centre for Excellence in Biological Arts'.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Carly Snoswell is an artist working and living on Kaurna Land. Her work has recently examined fandom and the creation of craft objects as an ode to particular pop-cultural phenomenon through gendered and labourious forms of craft-making. While still observing similar notions of obsession, devotion, longing and identity, Snoswell’s practice has recently broadened from themes of popular culture as she begins to explore personal experiences of motherhood, infertility and homemaking. In 2012 she graduated with First Class Honours at the South Australian School of Art and since then has exhibited widely including internationally. Snoswell was Co-Director of FELTspace ARI and has participated in studio residencies in Adelaide, Melbourne, India, New York, Japan and Iceland. She was a member of Mint Studios from 2015-17 and Holy Rollers Studios from 2017-20, however now takes up studio at her home in Seacliff Park. She recently completed a Masters by Research at the South Australian School of Art with her thesis “Beyonce is a Port Supporter”. Since 2015 she has been building a career as a Youth Arts Worker and is currently Youth Program Officer for the City of Onkaparinga. www.carlysnoswell.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>Truc Truong (b. 1987) is an artist living and working on the traditional lands of the Peramangk and Kaurna people, South Australia. Working with assemblage and sculpture, her practice often draws influence from post-colonialism, using a range of materials and processes to explore the human condition. Truong’s work is a fine line between rage and humour, convoluted memories and spaces, and the critique of power structures she attempts to escape from.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Our collaborative research practice extends across medium and form, between academic and contemporary arts contexts. The work we undertake is broadly united by considerations of human/environmental relationships, spanning extraction, industry, representation and containment, for example. Our work considers the vital agency of matter and more-than-human actants, with an attentiveness to intimate and extended temporalities and the complexities of place. We utilise sculptural and installation based practice, archival methodologies, documentation, collaboration and text in the realisation of our work. Our work has been exhibited across so-called Australia and internationally across artist-run and institutional spaces. 2023 sees further exhibition outcomes across Australia, and our appointment as Monash University’s MADA Gallery Curators-in-Residence.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Anika is an emerging artist interested in the impact and intersection of cognitive science in art and society. Their aim is to develop an art practice that gives space to think and feel around isolated elements of robotic technology, without the entrapping of neoliberal consumer driven biases or need for a result. Currently Anika’s focus is on how our scientific understanding of the cellular mechanisms in the somatosensory (touch) system are being translated into technological apparatuses. Anika completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual) at Flinders University and is currently studying a degree in Cognitive Science, minoring in Mathematics at Flinders University. Across the course of study Anika has been involved in a number of projects, most notably exhibitions in South Australia and a series of small bronze public art works for the City of Adelaide and the Department of Transport and Infrastructure. Anika was a recipient of the Helpmann Academy Graduate Award 2019 and Helpmann/City Rural Travel Award 2019. In 2021 Anika was awarded the Goolwa Public Art project by Helpmann, which they are currently working on, and a residency at George Street Studios in 2022. In February 2023 Anika undertook a residency at AADK in Blanca, Spain which provided them the space to pivot their practice into a more cognitive science inclined approach and where they began developing this project. They are set to do another residency at GILS in Iceland in June 2023. .</image:caption>

<image:caption>The decision to become an Artist was made by myself thirty five years ago. I started with pencil drawings in the manner of literal Surrealism. Then I was very fortunate to study under John Barbour at the “Underdale” campus. At which time I was introduced to metaphor , sign and more generally to sculpture. Though I never lost interest in painting. I have found it difficult to sell painting and graphic work. But it is even harder to sell sculpture. But of course that is not why art is being made. I agree with Louise Borgeois that “Art is a Priviledge”And that it must be handled with “Devotion and Care”. A long time ago when painters had really bad arthritis in their hands their assistants would tape the paint brushes to their hands so that they could go on and keep painting. One sees images of Henri Matisse in a wheelchair making his famous “ Cut Outs”. That is how it is with Art. The compulsion is very deep. I made paintings so encrusted with paint that they were too heavy to hang on the wall. And that they had to be exhibited resting in the floor. Using emulsions and aggregates. Or using unusual materials. Finding alternate paths . And this is always tied up with one’s psychology. Or aesthetic aspirations. Things that could be accomplished. One day one says to oneself “ Now I am going to paint the Stations of the Cross” It is deliberate. Or at least conscious. There is very little money in Art. One makes Art for aesthetic and psychological reasons. Many of my paintings are abstract. But the preference is for representation in paintings.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Roy Ananda is a visual artist, writer, and educator practicing on Kaurna Country (Tarndanya/Adelaide Plains). His objects, drawings, installations, texts, and videos variously celebrate popular culture, play, process, and the very act of making. Since 2001 he has exhibited prolifically around Australia, holding solo exhibitions at Adelaide Central Gallery (Adelaide), the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia (Adelaide), Dianne Tanzer Gallery+ Projects (Melbourne), FELTspace (Adelaide), Gallery 4a (Sydney), Hugo Michell Gallery (Adelaide), Samstag Museum of Art (Adelaide), and West Space (Melbourne). His work has been included in such significant survey exhibitions as Primavera (2004) at the MCA (Sydney), the Australian Drawing Biennial (2004) at the Drill Hall Gallery (Canberra), and CACSA Contemporary 2015 at SASA Gallery (Adelaide). In 2010 he was the South Australian recipient of the Qantas Foundation Art Award, which facilitated research trips to the U.K., Germany, and the U.S.A. In 2017 Ananda completed a post-graduate research degree at the University of South Australia with a specific focus on the intersection of pop-culture fandom and contemporary art practice. Ananda presented a major new work in the 2018 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art at the Art Gallery of South Australia, inspired by his lifelong passion for the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. He has lectured in drawing and sculpture at Adelaide Central School of Art since 2004 and currently holds the position of Head of Drawing. His writing has appeared in a wide variety of journals, books, exhibition catalogues, zines, and websites. Ananda was the feature artist of the 2021 South Australian Living Artists Festival and subject of that year’s SALA Publication, co-authored with Andrew Purvis, Bernadette Klavins, and Sean Williams, and published by Wakefield Press. .</image:caption>
